history

The Market Café
was established by the very talented and highly motivated Leigh Lyons. Her natural abilities in the culinary arts made for an obvious career choice. She attended Northampton Community College and graduated from the culinary program in 2000. Afterwards, she ran a bakery and deli in Northampton until 2001.

For six months, while working various restaurant jobs, she helped run a stand at Renninger's Market in Kutztown. In 2004 she gained ownership and The Market Café was born. Although it was a small venue, it had a vibrant charm which seemed to stand out among the busy fairway. Because of the outstanding menu, a strong customer base began to form which then continued to grow.

Quickly outgrowing the cramped space provided by the market, the decision was made to expand into a larger venue. The newly renovated train station in Topton was purchased and opened in November of 2005.

people

The staff are like family and give The Market Café its inviting and comfortable atmosphere.

Leigh's closest friend, Jenny Freeby, is an excellent baker and responsible for the treats available in the dessert counter. Karen Miller, the former chef at the Topton House, plays an integral role in catering and menu planning. Every morning you can depend on the delightful Sherrie Carl to have the doors open to greet you.

Everyone has input and every opinion counts. The staff are involved in creating daily specials like Betsy's Super Summer Wrap and Sherrie's Famous Roast Beef Melt.

On the walls you will find work by local artists such as glassblower, Dan Gaumer, watercolors by Carol Ross, and CD's by local musicians like Bruce Siekmann. On occasion, live music is performed by locals such as Jim Meck.
